What Should You Do if a Back Injury Occurs?

If an injury occurs, stop work immediately and take a break. Working through an injury can make it worse. Try to stretch to relieve any stiffness and pain. If the pain persists or is severe, notify a supervisor immediately and seek medical attention.

During the recovery process, take measures to control the pain. This can come in the form of pain killers, which should only be taken as directed by a physician, hot or cold compresses, massages, or a spinal adjustment by a licensed professional.

You should also rest if needed, but not for too long. Too much rest inhibits your body's ability to recover from a back injury. However, only engage in activities cleared by your doctor to avoid re-injury, or making an injury worse.
